Blue Valentine Mares
(We have 17 granddaughters of Blue Valentine and 18 great granddaughters)
Blues Beard was an own son of Blue Valentine with a strong outcross bottom side of Leo (Joe Reed twice), Ambrose twice, Three Bars and Beggars Boy. This gave him the strength of some of the best cow and running horse blood of his time. We crossed him on our intensely bred Blue Valentine mares and also some of our Driftwood/Peppy San mares and kept several of the daughters.
Plenty Try was the best, or at least one of the very top sons of Gooseberry by Blue Valentine. He was a true blue roan and very typey in his build. Heather Dividend, his dam, had four grandparents that were AAA rated and considered some of the best horses of their day with several of her full siblings being rodeo event horses. Our Plenty Try daughters have been the producers of some of our top performing youngsters.
Gerries Valentine was one of the top Plenty Try sons and his mother (Gerries Blue) was a Blue Valentine daughter. Her bottom side went back to Oklahoma Star, Chief P-5, and Easter King so she had the lineage to produce top offspring. Gerries Valentine produced big-hipped daughters and they in turn have raised outstanding foals for us.
Ruano Rojo was a Blue Valentine son out of another outcross mare. Moon Princess goes back to the old Coke Roberts bloodlines of Peter McCue, Sheik, and Nick that later made Hank Weiscamp famous. She also went back to San Siemon and Old Red Buck P-9 and it was the blend of this old time blood that made Ruano Rojo a strong breed. We have two of his sons and several daughters and find them to be a great cross with both our Blue Valentines and Driftwoods.
China Fritz is a blend of the proven cow horse blood of Par Three (sire of Zan Par Barr), Doc Bar, King Fritz, and Joe Hancock. The China Fritz daughters out of the Driftwood mares bring diversity to our program but these bloodlines dominate as AQHA point earners in the show ring. China Fritz qualified for the AQHA World Show in Heading, Heeling, and Calf Roping and has his ROM in open performance. He has produced AQHA point earners and NRHA money earners. His sire Partee Doc has 51 points in AQHA cutting and earned his ROM and Superior as well.
Leo Hancock Hayes is another true blue roan Blue Valentine son that has a strong genetic outcross mother, Doll 01. She had several crosses to Joe Reed and Leo, Sugar Bars, Ambrose, Zantanon, and Texas Blue Bonnet by Joe Hancock. We have several daughters who have all produced excellent foals for us.
Driftwood Sensation has always produced top quality riding horses and his daughters are doing the same. We have crossed several of his daughters on Mr Junewood for what we feel is the ultimate blended Driftwood using and performance horse.
We bred and raised Mr Junewood and also have several broodmares out of his mother who was a Stanley Johnston bred daughter of Orphan Drift. He has proven himself in the AQHA show circuit with 192 points, ROM and Superior Open Heeling, 4 World Show qualifications, and 2 Top Ten finishes.
Driftwood Ike's most prominent son was probably Orphan Drift, his dam going back to the old running bloodlines of Joe Reed II and Clabber. This was the proven cross of cowhorse blood on top of running blood, and is still used today. Orphan Drift was another successful rodeo roping event horse, and was used in several events. Orphan Drift proved to be quite pre potent, and sired many horses of great ability.
Driftwood, foaled in Texas in 1932, was a great performer, a match race horse, a top all event rodeo horse, and maybe more importantly, had the ability to sire foals that also were great performers, and they, in turn, had the genetic strength to pass these traits down. Driftwood blood is still highly sought after in today's performance horses. Driftwood died in 1960, and his best known, and perhaps best son, Driftwood Ike, born in 1950. Ike was the result of the now `very proven' Driftwood X Joe Hancock cross, his dam being a grand daughter of Joe Hancock. Driftwood Ike was a very successful rope horse, and a sought after sire of rope horses. He was also versatile, as they rode speed events and barrel races with him.
